DMT is an intermediate to polyester and is a derivative of TPA (terephthalic acid), its main feedstock is Paraxylene. TPA is converted to DMT in the production of polyester. World capacity is at around 4.4 million tpa and has fallen in recent years as it is traded less and less in favour of PTA. Main areas of consumption are in polyester films or speciality fibres. Consumption growth is flat and capacity is mostly in Western Economies.
