A thermoplastic ultimately derived from Ethylene and Chlorine Chemicals via the intermediates ethylene dichloride (EDC) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). Global capacity is some 36.6 million tpa which is widely dispersed around the world. PVC growth is about 4% per year. Uses are split in two types: “Rigids” which contain no plasticisers and “Flexibles” which do. The largest single use is for a wide variety of PVC pipes for sewage, drainage, potable water etc.
